All of the characters in the themeOne Land Many Trails demonstrate courage and determination. Compare Elena's courage to that of Slow, Grace McCance, or Bob Lemmons.

Use a "quote" from the story to demonstrate an event where Elena was courageous.

i think that Slow and Elena both showed determination and were not going to let others tell them what to do. heres a qoute from the story,"all of Elenas friends were telling elena to stay because they all were, but Elena did what her hearttold her to."

Elena's courage comes from the love of her children. Unlike Elena, Slow's courage comes from the want of a new and better name. Bob Lemmons' courage came from the love of horses. Here is an example from page 558, "`The world is changing around us,` mosther answered. `We must change, too.`"

I think Elena has the same courage as slow. Slow and Elena have the same courage by how they do what ever they can to protect there land, family, or not get into danger. Here’s a quote from page 555 “They would certainly not think to look for them in the kitchen, so she brought the horses in there, too.”

I compared Elena to Bob Lemmons because they were both brave and they both took a risk and they reiceved an award. " The world is changing around us". "We must change, too.

Elena courage is different then slows courage because she had to move from her house and had to take a chance and slows is different because he went in to battle an risked his life. Heres a " quote" that tellsthat they are the same. They are the same because they both had to take chances and they both had to risk there life in a certain way.

Elena's courage compared to Slow, Grace McCance and Bob Lemmons they all had to get through something hard for example Grace McCance had to get through her family's house being destroyed by the storm that blew through. Here's a quote from the story Elena,"Husband," she wispered, "how is it? Do you think you will recover?" That quote is on page 552.

Elena and Bob Lemmons were alike with courage because both were determined. Bob was patient, bold, and smart. Elena was caring, brave, and loving. Here is a quote from page 557, “Mother took a deep breath and opened the door.”

I think Elena and Bob Lemmons because they both took a big risk and they both made it throw the difficult times. Also they both came from different countries like Bob Lemmons came from Africa and Elena is from Mexico.

If I was to compare Elana's Courage to Slow's, Grace's, and Bob Lemon's, I would say they are all deteirmined people. I also would say that they are all greatful for their experiences. Here is a quote from the story, "She understood in a flash kjthat everything that had happened to her before had been for a reason."

I think that Elena's courage compares to Bob Lemmon's courage because, both of them hid very well while trying not to be noticed. here's a quote from page 554 when Elena heard horses coming so she hid in a small space inside a cabinet and stayed there until they left.

All of the characters in the theme One Land Many Trail all the characters were very brave in their own way. Grace was brave by getting the cows home even though her shoulder was bleeding from the bad tempered heifer. Bob Lemmons was brave to go near wild mustangs who could kill you by giving you a kick. Slow was brave to go near the other tribe warriors and touch the leader with a coup stick. Elena was very brave to move her family to the U.S. Here is a quote from the story,"We faced a new problem how were we going to get Estaban across the border without him getting detained."

Elena I think has the courage of Bob Lemmons becuse when Pancho Villa came to her house instead of hiding and waiting for all of it to be over she open the door and it all turned out ok. Then Bob Lemmons instead of trying to laso up the mustangs he became one of them and became the leader of the pack and cought all the mustangs. So dont be afraid about something that you think will go wronge becuse Elena and Bob did what they had to do they could of both died but something came out good at the end.Qoute:Mother took a deep breath and opened the door. There stood four or five soldiers, rough men who smelled of sweat and horses. There is my blog.

I think that Elena and Grace have the same courage and determination. Elena was determined to please her dead husband and cross the border to the United States safely with her son the same way that Grace was dteremined to finish her job rounding up the cattle even if she had a big gash down her side. A quote from page 560 is, "Mother befriended a Chinese fruit seller who was honest and kind. One day she told him our problem. He smiled, for he knew exactly how to help us. We could dress Esteban in the man's clothes and straw hat. He would pretend to be the fruit seller's helper."

Well, Elena's courage was very common to Slow because Slow wanted to do something great and tried really hard to complete his task and Elena tried really hard tot get her family to the U.S.A. and she wanted to complete her task. Here is a quote from the story to support my answer "The world is changing around us, we must change to" and "My son is brave, his determination has won the battle for us."

Elena's courage was different from Slows because Elena didn't want to go but Slow wanted to earn a new name. Here's a quote from the story. "Everyone urged us not to go."

From the story it shows that Elena's courage comes from her heat no her power on strength. Unlike Elena, Grace McCance had her courage from strength and determination. Here is a quote from the story Elena,"... 'It is not proper for a woman to travel unprotected like that', they said. 'It is not safe'. 'The world is changing around us,' Mama answered, 'we must change, too'".

Elena and Grace McCance both have courage they both never whine. When Grace got that big deep cut from the bull she finished her job. And in Elena she never whines when she needs to do her chores. Now here is a "quote" from the story from page 558. " It is not proper for a women to travel unprotected like that," Mother ssaid.

Elena and Bob Lemmon’s have the same qualities because Bob was brave by refraining the wild herd of horses. Elena was brave because she ran a boarding house and took care of her family. They both had bravery, courage, and determination. A quote from Elena, showing her courageous time in Mexico and the U.S. is, “We’d seen his face before, on a government poster. It was Poncho Villa himself!” I thought that Elena acted courageous when she was careful to not tell Poncho Villa that her son his in hiding with the horses. She was also courageous when she took over her family with a boarding house and when she took excellent care of her family.

Elena and Bob Lemmons both showed determination and courage because they both never gave up. Here's a quote from the story, "We were leaving behind our aunts and uncles, our little house, the furniture, the pictures, the pots and pans and dishes." I connected this quote to when Elena wanted to get to the U.S. so bad that she left a lot of stuff behind.

Elena's courage comes from the love and caring of her family. Bob Lemmons courage is for the love of horses. Here is a qoute from the story,"The world is changing around us," Mother ansered. "We must change, too."

Elena and Grace McCance are strong, courageous, and determined. For example they both know that whatever job or task they are doing it always has to get done. For example in Pioneer Girl, Grace shows that she is a tough and brave five year old. Here is a quote to support my answer, “…but the heifer gouged a deep cut from her hip to her armpit.” In Elena, Elena is brave, just like Grace. For example, right before Elena’s husband dies, he tells her to leave Mexico because there will be a war. Later, Elena took her family to the U.S. That shows that she is brave to leave the country by herself and that she cares for other people.

All the characters in our theme have proven there are all hard working but one has stood out the most, Elena. A reason she stood out is because even though her husband died, she had to take care of 3 kids during the Mexican revolution. She faced many challenges and conquered them all. For example on page 557," Senora, is this the house of Pablo the Famous sombrero maker?" Poncho Villa, the leader of the rebels said that face to face with Elena. That proves she conquered a challenge that most people couldn't do, talking face to face with an armies leader.

If I had to compare Elena's courage to another chariters in one land many trails I would pick Graces' courage. Elena and grace are alot alike with their courage because they both lived in places were there were times of hardship. Grace lived in the prarie were food was hard to get and so was water, and Elena lived in mexico during the mexican revolution were armies were stealing kids and horses. A great example of Graces' courage would be when she was gashed by the heifer and still got the herding job done. An example of Elena's courage would be when she talked to pancho villa like it was nothing. Here is a quote form the story to support my ansewer." It was much later when we heard what happened to our little village. Only when we were grown strong full of hope did we find out it was gone burned to the ground by the soilders. And when we hearded about the people who had died people we had known, then we understood what our mother had done. With her courage and daring, she had saved us all.

The determination with Elena and many trails is that she was ale to go to america all by her self without a dad. Here's a quote were Elena is brave enough to cross the boarder be her self and descise her son and have the risk for her to die by finding out who disguised him.
