Mae Jemison

Mae Jemison changed her career many times. She was a doctor in Los Angeles and Africa; she did research in outer space; and she started her own group to help poor countries. Think about the theme "Give it all You've Got". What is one way that Mae Jemison gives it all she's got?

Use "quotes" from the story to support your response.

Mae Jemison gives it all shes got because she learns how to survive in the wilderness and how to survive in the ocean. Here is a quote from page 216 “Jemison learns wilderness and water survival skills as part of her NASA training sessions.” Here’s another quote from page 216 “She also learned how to handle emergencies and deal with difficult situations.”

I think that Mae Jemison’s story belongs in the theme, “Give it all you've got," because in the book, Mae Jemison is the President of many clubs. She also gets accepted to one of the hardest but, greatest college's in the world, Stanford. Here is a quote from the story,” She was the first African-American woman in space." This is a good quote that supports the theme because it is hard to get into NASA, especially if you are from a different continent. She gave it all she got just like our theme.

Mae Jemison gives all she has because she changed her career many times and that's a big risk to take if you are trying to get a career until you resign, retire or quit she also gave all she got because she took the risk of training for NASA and she was one of the first chosen for the space adventure. Here's a quote from the story. "Dr. Mae Jemison was one of 15 people chosen from nearly two thousand qualified applicants."

Mae gives all she can to be an astronaut, and it goes along perfectly with our selctio becaue she does try some really hard things knowing that she might not get that job. Here's a quote from the reading selection" Dr.Mae Jemison was one of the 15 people chosen from two thousand qualified applicants."

Mae Jemison gives it all she’s got because she kept on moving forward even when everyone deified her and said “you can’t go in space” just because she was an African-American and was a female. Here is a quote from the story when Mae said she wanted to become an astronaut her teacher said “don’t u mean a nurse” and as I said in my sentence above she kept moving forward.

She succeeded in becomaing the first Afican-American woman to ever enter space. A quote from page 211 is, "She had just made history. She was the first African-American woman in space."

She did a frog experiment where she gets frog eggs then when they hatch there throw them in outer space to see if they survive. here is a qoute from page 216 "Jemison learns wilderness and water survival skills as part of her Nasa traing sessions."

Mae jemison gives it all she's got because she switches careers so many times so she could be what she wanted, a scientist. she even learned how to survive in the wilderness and the sea in case of crashes. her teacher even said that she HAD to be a nurse. here's a quote from page 213,"When Mae told her kindergarten teacher she wanted to be a scientist, the teacher said,"dont you mean nurse?"

She has accomplished many things because she wanted to be many things and not be underestimated like the teacher in her kinder garden class, and when she was in a health care program a man thought she couldn’t help him because she was to young! Here’s a quote to support my response” When I grow up I want to become a science teacher.” Said Mae Jemison” Don’t you mean a nurse?” said her kinder garden teacher!

Mae Jemson gave it all she had by never taking in the negitivity from other people telling her she couldnt follow her dreams. Another way she never gave up is by knowing there wasn't a single black austronaut and she excepted the fact. Here's a quote from the story. "When Mae told her kindergarden teacher she wanted to be a scientist, the teacher said,"Dont you mean a nurse?"

One way Mae gives it all she has is when she resigned from being an astronaut she wasn’t done she wanted another challenge, perhaps a harder one. Because from what I have read I don’t think Mae likes to be free, but always preoccupied. A quote from the story to support my answer is, “At Stanford, she specialized in African and Afro-American studies, and chemical engineering.” I think it is amazing that she mastered in two things, that just shows that she pretty much always has to be busy.

Mae Jemison gives it all she's got by first getting into Stanford University then becoming a doctor, after that she trains to become an astronaught. Here is an example to represent the theme of give it all you got Although she had settled into a career as a doctor Mae wasn't finshed traveling yet.

Mae Jemison gives it all shes got because even though when she was a girl and people were prejitous against black people she still followed her dream and didnt let herself down. Here is an example from page 213 of the houghton mifflin book. "Other adults were not as encouraging as may's parents. When may told her kindergarten teacher that she wanted to be a scientist the teacher said "Dont you mean a nurse" (the quote ends here). I mean come on A KINDERGARTEN teacher tried to make a little black girl give up on herself.

The time when Mae Jemison gave it all she got is when she went to collage twice and was accepted to Stanford University. The first time she went to collage was to learn new subjects, study and everything you learn or do in collage. The second time is when she wanted to become a doctor at Cornell University. Here is a quote from the story, “ Mae received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornell University in 1981”.

One way that Mae gives it all she has is that she always believed that she could go into space even when people discouraged her. Here is an example from the story from page 213, "When Mae told her kindergarten teacher that she wanted to be a scientist, the teacher said, "Dont you mean a nurse?".

Can I simply just say what a comfort to uncover somebody that genuinely understands what they are talking
about on the internet. You actually know how to bring a problem to light
and make it important. A lot more people need to look at this
and understand this side of your story. I was surprised that you aren't more popular since you definitely have the gift.
